What are Charging Plans?

In electric vehicle charging management, charging plans define how, when, and under what conditions charging is allowed to take place. They are a core component of the platform, enabling operators to control energy usage, optimize costs, and manage charger availability in a structured and predictable way.

Charging plans act as a set of rules applied to a location or group of chargers. These rules determine parameters such as the maximum power and energy that can be delivered, as well as the time periods during which charging is permitted.

Why Charging Plans Are Important

Charging plans help ensure efficient and reliable use of charging infrastructure. By applying charging plans, operators can:

Control

Control charging behavior during peak and off-peak hours

Consumption

Limit power and energy consumption to avoid overloads

Optimization

Optimize energy costs by scheduling charging during preferred time windows

Optimize energy costs

Temporarily disable charging when needed (for maintenance or operational reasons)

Charging plans help ensure efficient and reliable use of charging infrastructure. By applying charging plans, operators can:

Types of Charging Plans

The platform supports two main types of charging plans:

Default Charging Plans

Always On, Always Off, Night Only

Personalized Charging Plans

Custom plans created by users

Default Charging Plans

Default charging plans are predefined by the platform and are available to all users. These plans cover common charging scenarios and cannot be edited or deleted. Examples include:

Examples:

  • Always On – Charging enabled at all times

  • Always Off – Charging disabled at all times

  • Night Only – Charging allowed only during nighttime hours

Default plans provide a quick and reliable way to apply standard charging behavior.

Personalized Charging Plans

Personalized charging plans are custom plans created by users. They allow full flexibility in defining charging rules, including:

  • Custom power and energy limits

  • Specific days and time intervals using a calendar

  • Multiple time slots with different charging conditions

These plans are ideal for advanced use cases where charging behavior needs to match business hours, energy contracts, or operational constraints.

How Charging Plans Are Used

Charging plans are typically assigned to locations. Once applied, all chargers associated with that location follow the rules defined by the selected charging plan. This ensures consistent charging behavior across the entire site.

Charging plans can be viewed, assigned, and managed directly from the dashboard, making it easy to adjust charging behavior as requirements change.
